Many thanks to all who worked so hard to make Lucky Lady night, An Evening with the Stars, such a success. There were 97 ladies in attendance. Thanks especially to everyone who bought gift tickets and grand raffle tickets during the pre sale. The Grand Prize raffle of Shea’s Theatre tickets went to a guest of member Nora Snyder. The Grand Gasoline raffle prize was won by member, Charmaine Kaes.

Proceeds of the event go to club improvements such as the railing and coach lights at the clubhouse entrance, the outdoor clock on the pro shop, the renovation of the ladies upstairs lounge, dining room trays, tray stands, kitchen equipment, the TVs in the bar, much of the outdoor furniture and much more over the years.

Without the support of club members, this would not be possible.

Thanks again for another great Lucky Lady night.

The roller coaster ride this spring has continued and as we head into May, we hope that by the time this hits your mailbox, we are into a more consistent and pleasant weather pattern.

As many of you may have noticed we removed some willow trees over the winter on the right hand side of the
12th hole. These trees were causing a major problem with our drain lines by clogging them with roots which led to the fairway being water-logged at certain times of the year and restricting cart traffic to the path for the entire season. As a result of these trees being removed and the drains being replaced, the fairway has been substantially dryer than in years past and we have already allowed cart traffic on the fairway this spring. It is remarkable the difference a tree removal can make. We have plans to do more clean-up work in this general area as time permits.

I look forward to seeing everyone and am excited to meet those of you who are new. Chris has added me to the Play With The Pro schedule posted in the golf shop so if you haven’t had a chance to play with me before, then sign up for a slot or drop me a note at drew@eastauroracc.com and we can set something up.

See you on the course!!

- Drew Thompson, Golf Course Superintendent

I would like to take a moment to update everyone on some questions that have been presented to me by members. The most frequent question is the ability to update everyone on nightly food and bar specials. I have created a Twitter account, which is the easiest way for real time updates. Simply log in (or sign up) to Twitter and follow @East_AuroraCC. I will be posting our daily specials and also mak- ing a wine suggestion of the week. I will continue to address maintenance and upgrades, and have purchased new patio cushions and table candles for outside, the locker room floors have been acid washed to bring them up to our standards, the patio deck has been repaired and will be stained, and the patio and pro-shop railings have been re-painted. The board has approved House With Golf members to sign up for Stag Days, Tulip, Invitational and Harvest tournaments, counting as one of their rounds of play. We had the tremendous attendance at our first 3 club functions with Easter, Steak & Cigar Night and Lucky Lady, and look forward to similar attendance marks at the upcoming events, so be sure to call in to reserve your table early. Last, in order to better prepare and staff on a regular basis, I would encourage everyone to call in for lunch and dinner reservations. Thank you, George.

We were back to reality with the April weather but I am happy to see that the activity at the Club did not cool off. Participation at both the Steak & Cigar and Lucky Lady nights far exceeded recent years with attendance at both around 100 people. We even had about 20 people brave the cold and rain for the opening day SWAT. Our man- agers are putting together some top notch events and I hope to see the tremendous participation and support continue. Remember to sign up for the Tulip and May Stag and watch for details on the Memorial Day Barbecue. And of course, remember to bring your new member referrals to Wine Down Wednesdays in May.

For those grandparents out there, the Board has approved to allow grandchildren access to the course. See inside for details. To sign your grandkids up, or for more information, call Sally in the club office. As home to the International Junior Masters, hopefully we will continue to see growth of our junior program as we did in 2011.

We will also hold a local qualifier on May 12 at the Club; we will accept five players from this qualifier plus two more from among our members.

As most of you now know we are planning a special event commemorating our 60th anniversary on June 23. We have invited as many former players as we could find in addition to all past chairmen of the event. We are also honoring Ed Pfister as our 2012 Champion of the Game. All members are welcome to attend. Please direct any questions to Paul O’Brien.

The HamAm is scheduled for June 25. This will be another sell out so please be sure to sign up early or contact Gene Orzech or John Kozma. They are also looking for volunteers to help solicit prizes and hole sponsors.

Connie Hitchcock is in charge of player housing. She is reaching out to past hosts, but if anyone who hasn’t had the experience of housing a player and would like to please contact Connie.

Jack Hinners and Jim Aston are again arranging for observers. There will be a sign up sheet in the Pro Shop. They can use as many people as are willing to help.

We will again be having the Finals Party on Friday, June 29 immediately following the matches. All members and sponsors are invited to attend. There is no charge for this event.

Lastly, by the time this is published there should be new sand in all of our traps. This is a gift from the Junior Masters Committee. We will also work with the Board to direct proceeds from this year’s event to a mutually agreeable capital project that benefits the tournament and the Club.

The 2012 Mens Twilight League starts Tuesday, May 8th and runs through August 14th (August 21st Rain Date). We play rain or shine unless the course is closed for safety or unplayable conditions, as determined by our Head Golf Professional and Grounds Superintendent.

Twilight matches are played using the fourball format, with 80% handicap applied. A fourball match, commonly referred to as “better ball”, consists of two teams of two players competing directly against each other. All four golfers play their own ball throughout the round, and each hole is won by the team whose member has the lowest (net) score. 20 total points are available, 2 points are awarded per hole, with a tie yielding 1 point to each team. A final 2 points are awarded to the team with the lowest (net) 9-hole total.

In the event you must play against par, your full 9-hole handicap will be used.

Lastly, scorecards are picked up in the pro shop before the round at the “Twilight” table (players handicap sheets are posted or reference) and the full rules are posted in the Pro Shop and on the men’s locker room bulletin board.

Welcome to all of our new and returning members! I hope you are looking forward to taking advantage of everything EACC has to offer. We are off to a good start with the membership drive and want to continue the momentum, so we have extended the 20% discount through April on first year dues for all new full golf memberships. Everyone spread the word and keep those referrals coming.

And can you believe the March we had? Being a CPA and barely seeing daylight this time of year, it was painful sitting in my office as the thermometer hit 80 and the emails were coming to get out and play golf. However, it was great to see so much activity at the club so early in the year. Thanks to Drew and Chris for getting the course and carts ready and available earlier than planned. I am hoping Mother Nature continues to
cooperate in April. Be sure to check the calendar for all of the great events George and Chris have planned!

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Mulligans. We are a group of “fine gentlemen” joined together to promote fellow- ship and recreation among retired members of our club.

Our group was formed at a luncheon meeting with 19 men attending on October 6, 1972. The name of the group was chosen and officers elected. This luncheon set the pattern still followed. The “official” meetings are held each Friday noon unless they conflict with an important club event or a national holiday.

The weekly lunch is followed by a brief and informal business meeting. A typical agenda: member birthdays are noted, upcoming events, committee reports, news from the EACC board, prior week’s golf dissected and prizes awarded, member provided “humor”.

During the golf season nine holes of golf are played under various formats with random pairings either preceding or following the luncheon depending upon the club’s golfing schedule.

We Mulligans are committed to maintaining close contact with our membership, marking their birthdays and sending appropriate messages to those ill or bereaved. Be- cause of this concern it is required that members correspond with the group when absent for an extended time. In addition a Memorial Plaque for our deceased members is maintained in the clubhouse.

We hold two annual parties: a Christmas party in December and a Summer party in August with members, their escorts, and widowed spouses. A couples golf tourney is held the 1st Monday in June. We are eager to share our good times and traditions. We welcome all EACC members who have retired from active business or professional activities.

Following a great winter has come a great spring and even though the temperatures have returned closer to average
i haven’t heard any complaints about the weather so far this season.

As you can imagine as the weather has improved our workload has skyrocketed. The grass has taken off and we have been forced to bring back a number of crew members much earlier than planned. Timing is also an issue when it comes to pre-emergent weed applications, insect control and disease control. Mother nature doesn’t base things on the calendar and we can’t either.

I hope all of you had a great winter!! If you are interested in setting up a time to play please email me at drew@eastauroracc.com. See you on the course!!!

Wow, what a great start to the golf season! Great weather in March turned the golf course green in a hurry. Let’s hope the great weather continues. Drew and his staff have done a wonderful job getting it into great shape. When you are out playing please be courteous of the grounds staff while they are working.

My golf clinics were a big hit last year and I am going to continue to have them beginning in May and ending in

August. I will run two clinics a month, on Wednesday and or Thursday nights from 6 to 7pm. Topics covered will include, Driver, Irons, Put- ting, Chipping, On Course situations and how to take your range game to the course. May 9th will be the first clinic; it will be free to anyone who shows up. We will meet on the Driving Range and discuss Driver and Iron play. On the 16th I will hold a Chipping clinic with a small fee of $10 per person. Guests and friends are welcome also.

Attention new members from 2011 and 2012. I will be running a new member golf orientation on May 2nd from 6 to 7pm. I would like anyone who joined EACC in 2011 or 2012 to attend. I will go over proper check-in procedure in the pro shop, golf course etiquette, pace of play, membership golf rules, range hours and eti- quette, handicap procedure, and more. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have with the golf operation.

I am trying to get more and more people to play this great game. This year we are starting a 3-hole beginner league on Thursday nights starting at 6pm. This will be a 4-week program beginning on Thursday May 24th and ending June 14th. The cost is $20 for the 4 weeks. This is a great way to get your significant other to learn the game and feel more comfortable on the golf course. Look for more information in my April Chip Shots email.

Finally my golf shop is becoming full of new clothing and clubs. Check out the new Taylor Made RBZ “Rocketbalz” line, Titleist has improved their AP1 and AP2 Irons, Ping has launched the G20 driver. I also have some belly putters in stock. There are some great new fashions from Adidas, Greg Norman, Fairway and Greene, Antigua and Footjoy. I know the ladies will like the Vera Bradley bags, EACC belts, Sandals and new Sandbagger Shoes. All I ask is that you give Kulinski Golf Shop a chance; you will see my prices are competitive with all the golf stores. Thanks for your continued support.

Handicap Questions:

What is the current method for adjusting my hole scores under Equitable Stroke Control (ESC)?
What scores are acceptable for handicap posting purposes?
(Answers will be posted in the locker rooms.)

If you have any questions feel free to give the Pro Shop a call at 652-6803. Remember keep hitting it close and roll it in.

Well we are off to a fast start to the season. As I write this it is expected to be 80 today, in March!! The clubhouse will be opening earlier this year than
in years past. We will start our regular hours on Tuesday April 3rd. Hours of operation and events can be seen on our new website as well. We will

also be continuing our Wine Down Wednesdays
in April due to popular demand. The only difference will be, as we are now in season, jeans are no longer permitted in the clubhouse. It will still be a great time! Our new dinner menu will also start on Thursday April 5th, so be sure to come in and try the new dishes Chef Steve and his staff have created. Finally, a big thank you to everyone who helped complete clubhouse improvements in February. We accomplished a lot and the club is looking great!

Tomorrow March 14th, EACC will be allowing golf carts on the course. Because of this great early weather golf carts will be available from 9 to 5pm only until April 1st, when the golf season officially begins. Golf carts will not be available on Monday’s until April 2nd.

Remember the clubhouse also has limited hours early in the season, so please try not to leave your important personal possessions (car keys) in your locker. The bag room will be open for club storage and Pro Shop will officially open April 3rd.

It looks like the Driving Range will also open on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th), so get off the couch and visit EACC for some early season practice.

I look forward to seeing everyone again soon. Remember there is no evaluation of your golf game in March, you have to wait until at least April.

Enjoy the nice weather and have some fun!
